《Mr. Tanner》歌词

[00:00:00] Mr Tanner - Harry Chapin
[00:00:10] Mister Tanner was a cleaner from a town in the Midwest
[00:00:15] And of all the cleaning shops around he'd made his the best
[00:00:20] He also was a baritone who sang while hanging clothes
[00:00:25] He practiced scales while pressing tails and sang at local shows
[00:00:31] His friends and neighbors
[00:00:33] Praised the voice that poured out from his throat
[00:00:37] They said that he should use his gift instead of cleaning coats
[00:00:47] But music was his life
[00:00:49] It was not his livelihood
[00:00:51] And it made him feel so happy and it made him feel so good
[00:00:57] He sang from his heart and he sang from his soul
[00:01:02] He did not know how well he sang; It just made him whole
[00:01:16] His friends kept working on him to try music out full time
[00:01:21] A big debut and rave reviews a great career to climb
[00:01:26] Finally they got to him he would take the fling
[00:01:31] A concert agent in New York agreed to have him sing
[00:01:37] There were plane tickets phone calls
[00:01:41] Money spent to rent the hall
[00:01:43] It took most of his savings but he gladly used them all
[00:01:53] But music was his life it was not his livelihood
[00:01:58] And it made him feel so happy and it made him feel so good
[00:02:03] He sang from his heart and he sang from his soul
[00:02:08] He did not know how well he sang; It just made him whole
[00:02:22] The evening came he took the stage his face set in a smile
[00:02:27] In the half filled hall the critics sat watching on the aisle
[00:02:32] The concert was a blur to him spatters of applause
[00:02:38] He did not know how well he sang he only heard the flaws
[00:02:43] But the critics were concise it only took four lines
[00:02:49] And no one could accuse them of being over kind
[00:02:57] Mr Martin Tanner Baritone of Dayton
[00:02:59] Ohio made his Town Hall debut last night
[00:03:03] He came well prepared but unfortunately
[00:03:06] His presentation was not up to contemporary professional standards
[00:03:11] His voice lacks the range of tonal color necessary to
[00:03:14] Make it consistently interesting
[00:03:17] Full time consideration of another endeavor might be in order
[00:03:36] He came home to Dayton and was questioned by his friends
[00:03:40] But he smiled and just said nothing and he never sang again
[00:03:50] Excepting very late at night when the shop was dark and closed
[00:04:00] He sang softly to himself as he sorted through the clothes
[00:04:16] But music was his life it was not his livelihood
[00:04:24] And it made him feel so happy and it made him feel so good
[00:04:34] And he sang from his heart and he sang from his soul
[00:04:44] He did not know how well he sang; It just made him whole
