[00:00:02] A certain father had a family of sons

[00:00:06] Who were forever quarreling among themselves

[00:00:10] No words he could say did the least good

[00:00:13] So he cast about in his mind for some very striking example

[00:00:18] That should make them see that discord would lead them to misfortune

[00:00:25] One day

[00:00:26] When the quarreling had been much more violent than usual

[00:00:30] And each of the sons was moping in a surly manner

[00:00:34] He asked one of them to bring him a bundle of sticks

[00:00:38] Then handing the bundle to each of his sons in turn

[00:00:42] He told them to try to break it

[00:00:46] But although each one tried his best none was able to do so

[00:00:52] The father then untied the bundle

[00:00:53] And gave the sticks to his sons to break one by one

[00:00:58] This they did very easily

[00:01:01] My sons said the father

[00:01:05] Do you not see how certain it is

[00:01:08] That if you agree with each other and help each other

[00:01:11] It will be impossible for your enemies to injure you

[00:01:16] But if you are divided among yourselves

[00:01:19] You will be no stronger than a single stick in that bundle

[00:01:24] In unity is strength
