[00:00:07] Who interrputed his career by his own choice

[00:00:11] To become a minister and by the way

[00:00:14] I understand he was very successful

[00:00:17] And during this period of his life

[00:00:19] Tommy pasteured a small Baptist church

[00:00:22] In the very small town of Lincoln California

[00:00:27] And it was during this time

[00:00:29] That he was called upon to speak at a funeral

[00:00:32] And the poem I want to recite

[00:00:34] For you now is a true experience of Tommy's

[00:00:38] And it's simply called The Funeral

[00:00:52] A funeral is always a saddening thing

[00:00:56] For everybody is somebody to someone

[00:01:01] But some funeral scenes chill you to the bone

[00:01:05] And one day in our town we had one

[00:01:09] A very young mother had died

[00:01:10] Something that you just don't expect

[00:01:13] And the shops and stores had

[00:01:16] All closed their doors

[00:01:19] They did it out of love and respect

[00:01:23] And in the crowded funeral home that day

[00:01:25] With everyone present weeping

[00:01:28] The sound of a little girl's voice was heard

[00:01:31] She said That's my mommie

[00:01:33] She's sleeping

[00:01:36] Then I heard the sound of

[00:01:37] Her little feet tap tap tap

[00:01:42] As she made her way down the aisle

[00:01:45] Her little purse dangled from her tiny wrist

[00:01:48] And it brushed her best Sunday dress

[00:01:51] And she boldly asserted the confidence

[00:01:54] That little folks like her possess

[00:01:57] To the life that has no final chapter

[00:02:00] There's no ending and no last mile

[00:02:04] The preacher and the rest were petrified

[00:02:08] But on the little girl's face was a smile

[00:02:12] She said wake up mommie wake up

[00:02:16] And still not satisfied

[00:02:18] She reached out with her little hand

[00:02:20] And touched her face and cried

[00:02:25] Then the broken hearted daddy spoke

[00:02:27] With a gentleness and with power

[00:02:31] And the words that issued from his lips

[00:02:33] Was the sermon for the hour

[00:02:38] In a child like faith he told her

[00:02:41] That the dead in Christ will rise

[00:02:46] God gave us his word he said

[00:02:49] And we know he never lies

[00:02:53] We can't wake up our sleeping mommie

[00:02:57] But we know someone who can

[00:03:02] Baby only God can wake up mommie

[00:03:08] Let's go home and leave her in his hands
