Snow in the Suburbs By Thomas Hardy

[00:00:00] Every branch big with it

[00:00:03] Bent every twig with it

[00:00:05] Every fork like a white web-foot

[00:00:08] Every street and pavement mute

[00:00:11] Some flakes have lost their way

[00:00:14] And grope back upward when

[00:00:16] Meeting those meandering down

[00:00:19] They turn and descend again

[00:00:21] The palings are glued together like a wall

[00:00:25] And there is no waft of wind with the fleecy fall

[00:00:29] A sparrow enters the tree

[00:00:32] Whereon immediately

[00:00:33] A snow-lump thrice his own slight size

[00:00:37] Descends on him and showers his head and eyes

[00:00:40] And overturns him

[00:00:42] And near inurns him

[00:00:44] And lights on a nether twig when its brush

[00:00:47] Starts off a volley of other

[00:00:49] Lodging lumps with a rush

[00:00:52] The steps are a blanched slope

[00:00:55] Up which with feeble hope

[00:00:58] A black cat comes wide-eyed and thin

[00:01:03] And we take him in
