[00:01:35] Spite of drink and rags and dirt

[00:01:45] That he'd like to see the city

[00:01:47] Ever liquor finished him

[00:01:52] But he couldn't raise the money

[00:01:54] He was d**ned if he could think

[00:01:57] What the government was doing here

[00:02:04] I declined was self denial

[00:02:06] And I lectured him on booze

[00:02:09] Using all the hackneyed arguments

[00:02:12] That preachers mostly use

[00:02:16] Things I'd heard in temperance lectures

[00:02:19] I was young and rather green

[00:02:21] And I ended by referring to the man

[00:02:25] He might have been

[00:02:28] But he couldn't stay to argue

[00:02:31] For his beer was nearly gone

[00:02:33] He was glad

[00:02:34] He said to meet me

[00:02:36] And he'd see me later on

[00:02:40] But he guessed he'd have to go

[00:02:42] And get his bottle filled again

[00:02:45] And he gave a lurch and vanished in the

[00:02:48] Darkness and the rain

[00:02:53] And the afternoons in cities

[00:02:56] When the rain is on
