[00:00:34] It killed off the flowers and killed off the grass

[00:00:37] The rabbits were starving because of the freeze

[00:00:40] They started eating the bark off the trees

[00:00:43] Now the people are scratching all over the street

[00:00:47] Because the rabbits had nothing to eat

[00:00:52] The farmers said "This sort of thing just won't do

[00:00:55] Our trees will be dead when the rabbits get through

[00:00:58] We'll have to poison the rabbits it's clear;

[00:01:01] Or we'll have no crops to harvest next year "

[00:01:04] Now the people are scratching all over the street

[00:01:08] Because the rabbits had nothing to eat

[00:01:14] So they brought the poison and spread it around

[00:01:17] And soon dead rabbits began to be found

[00:01:20] Dogs ate the rabbits and the farmers just said

[00:01:23] "We'll poison those rabbits 'til the last dog is dead "

[00:01:26] Now the people are scratching all over the street

[00:01:30] Because the rabbits had nothing to eat

[00:01:35] Up in the sky there were meat-eating fowls

[00:01:38] The dead rabbits poisoned the hawks and the owls

[00:01:41] Thousands of field mice the hawks used to chase

[00:01:44] Were multiplying all over the place

[00:01:47] Now the people are scratching all over the street

[00:01:51] Because the rabbits had nothing to eat

[00:01:57] The fields and the meadows were barren and brown

[00:02:00] The mice got hungry and moved into town

[00:02:02] The city folks took the farmer's advise

[00:02:05] And all of them started to poison the mice

[00:02:08] Now the people are scratching all over the street

[00:02:12] Because the rabbits had nothing to eat

[00:02:17] There were dead mice in all the apartments and flats

[00:02:21] The cats ate the mice and the mice killed the cats

[00:02:24] The smell was awful and I'm glad to say

[00:02:26] I wasn't the man hired to haul them away

[00:02:29] Now the people are scratching all over the street

[00:02:33] Because the rabbits had nothing to eat

[00:02:42] All through the country and all through the town

[00:02:45] There wasn't a dog or cat to be found

[00:02:48] The fleas asked each other "Where can we stay "

[00:02:51] They've been on the people from then 'til this day

[00:02:54] Now the people are scratching all over the street

[00:02:58] Because the rabbits had nothing to eat

[00:03:06] All you small creatures that live in this land

[00:03:09] Stay clear of the man with the poisonous hand

[00:03:12] A few bails of hay might keep you alive
