[00:00:00] UNICEF is joining with a nonprofit group to bring AIDS

[00:00:06] five countries.

[00:00:08] UNICEF( United's Nations Children Fund) will work with

[00:00:15] The new partnership will be established at first in

[00:00:18] Guyana, India, Malawi, Nigeria and Zambia.

[00:00:23] One of the goals is to improve care for babies infected

[00:00:26] with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.

[00:00:31] Another is to prevent the spread of HIV from mother

[00:00:34] to child.

[00:00:37] Activities will depend on the needs of each country.

[00:00:40] In some cases, anti AIDS drugs will be provided to

[00:00:44] infected parents or children.

[00:00:47] Women and children living in rural communities will

[00:00:50] receive most of the services.

[00:00:53] Both UNICEF and Family Health International will expand

[00:00:57] their partnership into more countries in the future.

[00:01:02] Family Health international has been working on public

[00:01:04] health issues since 1971.The organization is based in

[00:01:09] North Carolina and has programs in 70 countries.

[00:01:14] It does research on infectious diseases and reproductive

[00:01:18] health, and also provides services.

[00:01:21] Experts say an important part of fighting AIDS is

[00:01:24] political will. One example they point to is Cambodia.

[00:01:30] That country has been getting attention for its progress

[00:01:33] in reducing some of the highest infection rates in Asia.

[00:01:37] Experts praise the government for supporting public

[00:01:40] education efforts and programes.
