《The Streets Of New York》歌词

[00:00:00] The Streets Of New York - The O'Neill Brothers (奥尼尔兄弟)
[00:00:08] I was 18yrs old when
[00:00:10] I went down to dublin with a fistful
[00:00:13] Of money and a cartload of dreams
[00:00:17] Take your time said me father
[00:00:19] Stop rushing like hell and remember all is not what it seems to be
[00:00:26] For there's fellas that would cut ye for the coat on yer back
[00:00:30] Or the watch that you got from your mother so take care me old bucko
[00:00:35] And mind yourself well give this wee note to me brother
[00:00:42] At the time uncle benjy was a policeman in brooklyn
[00:00:46] And me father the youngest looked after the farm
[00:00:51] When a phonecall from america said
[00:00:53] 'Send the lad over'
[00:00:55] You fella said 'sure wouldn't do
[00:00:58] Any harm' spent me life working this dirty old ground
[00:01:04] For a few pints of porter and the smell of a pound
[00:01:08] And sure maybe there's something you'll learn or you'll see
[00:01:12] You can bring it back home make it easy on me
[00:01:26] So i landed in kennedy and a big yellow taxi
[00:01:30] Carried me and me bags through the streets and the rain
[00:01:35] My poor heart was thumpin around with excitement
[00:01:39] And i hardly even heard what the driver was sayin
[00:01:44] We came in the shore parkway to the faltlands of brooklyn
[00:01:48] To me uncle's apartment on east 53rd
[00:01:53] I was feeling so happy i was humming a song and
[00:01:58] I sang you're as free as a bird
[00:02:01] To shorten the story what
[00:02:03] I found out that day was that
[00:02:06] Benjy got shot down in an uptown foray
[00:02:10] And while i was flying my way to new york
[00:02:13] Poor benjy was lying in a cold city morgue
[00:02:19] I phoned up the old fella told him the news
[00:02:23] Tell he could
[00:02:24] Hardly stand up in his shoes and he wept as he told me
[00:02:29] 'Go ahead with the plans
[00:02:31] And not to forget be a proud irish man'
[00:03:17] So i went to nellies beside fordham road
[00:03:21] And i started to learn about lifting the load
[00:03:26] But the heaviest thing that i carried that year
[00:03:30] Was the bittersweet thought of my hometown so dear
[00:03:36] I went home that december 'cause the oul fella died
[00:03:40] Had to borrow the money from phil on the side
[00:03:45] All the brught flowers and brass couldn't hide
[00:03:49] The poor wasted face of me father
[00:03:53] I sold up the oul farmyard for what it was worth
[00:03:58] And into my bag stuck
[00:03:59] A handful of earth then i boarded a train and i caught me a plane
[00:04:07] And i found meself back in the us again
[00:04:11] It's been 22yrs since
[00:04:13] I've set foot in dublin
[00:04:16] Me kids know to use the correct knife and fork
[00:04:22] But i'll never forget the green grass and the rivers
[00:04:27] As i keep law and order in the streets of new york
